The Project
A clean and dynamic website that will serve as a hub for all things TEDxUBC
To reintroduce TEDxUBC after a three-year hiatus, I designed a website that offers a seamless, accessible, and visually engaging resource for attendees, sponsors, and speakers to easily access event information and connect with our mission.
Brainstorm
The sleek minimalism of the Apple website guided my approach to structure and visual hierarchy.
I used the TED website as a reference for colour and tone.
I referenced the UBC nwPlus website for its intuitive navigation and community-driven feel.

My Solution
Home Page
The homepage begins with a visually striking banner showcasing the TEDxUBC logo and streamlined navigation links to key section. A future addition of a dynamic video header will bring TEDxUBC events to life. Clear, prominent calls to action—such as buttons and links—direct visitors to engage further by attending events, becoming sponsors, or applying to speak, ensuring seamless access to opportunities for involvement.
Continuous Layout
The seamless, one-page design ensures users can easily scroll through all the key information without the need for multiple clicks, offering an uninterrupted and accessible browsing experience.
Tone
The design blends professionalism with approachability, using TEDxUBC event visuals to create a welcoming and genuine experience. Complemented by a futuristic tone, the design fosters connection and sparks discovery, embodying TEDxUBC’s mission to share transformative ideas that inspire change.
Accessible Information
The Events page centralizes essential details—event dates, details, highlights, etc. — in a clear and organized layout. This design ensures visitors can effortlessly find the information they need to plan their attendance and engage with TEDxUBC events.
Theme adaptability
The prominent "This Year's Event" feature not only provide clear pathways for users to discover and engage with TEDxUBC events, but also allow the website to adapt seamlessly to the evolving theme and needs of TEDxUBC each year. This flexibility enhances clarity, ensuring that visitors are always informed and encouraged to participate, regardless of how the event's focus may change.
FAQ
The accordion design of the FAQ section streamlines the user experience by presenting answers in a clean, collapsible format. This design minimizes the risk of overwhelming visitors with excessive text, allowing them to easily navigate through the information they need. It enhances accessibility by enabling users to expand only the sections relevant to them, creating a more organized and user-friendly experience.
Resources
The TEDx Library section provides easy access to past TEDx talks, fostering ongoing learning and engagement with TEDx content well beyond the event itself. This feature ensures that visitors can continue exploring transformative ideas at their own pace, creating a lasting connection with TEDxUBC's mission of spreading knowledge and inspiration.
Sponsorships
The Sponsorships page was designed to meet the specific requirements of TEDx organization regulations. It also utilizes shape and size to indicate the contributions of each sponsor in a visually appealing way.
Call to action
A dynamic video banner poses the question, “Ready to start your TEDxUBC journey?” This engaging feature captures attention and invites visitors to take the next step, sparking curiosity and encouraging meaningful interaction with the TEDxUBC experience.
Mailing List
A subscription box at the bottom of the page where users can enter their email to receive updates, making it easy to stay informed on upcoming events and announcements.
Key Features
Event Poster Gallery
The events page provides a straightforward way for users to learn about upcoming events. By clicking on event posters, users can access a pop-up with all the relevant details, ensuring an informative experience without overwhelming them with excessive information or making the page look too busy.
Sponsorship
In compliance to sponsorship requirements, the sponsorship information can expand and provide the viewer with more information.
